Second thoughts - Chapter 13
Iâll become his.
The thought ricocheted through my mind as Aziza placed his hand on my chin and lifted my face to meet his. His touch made my body tingle with an unfamiliar warmth. The pain that I previously experienced seemed nonexistent as I gazed at his lips, I wanted to feel them on mine once again. Iâd never thought about becoming mates with a werewolf, Iâd always thought that I would run away from this supernatural world and flee as far south as I could get. I knew that no one here would miss me and yet I couldnât leave.
I had no survival skills; I had no idea how I could live on my own once I got far enough south. I wasnât even sure how I was supposed to interact with those of my kind, humans. I was forbidden to talk about my life within Cyrusâs pack or what it was like being the punching bag of those who were far stronger than I was.
If I told any humans, then I was risking my own life as knowledge of werewolves was forbidden within this land. It was a way for them to protect themselves against humans as humans feared anything more powerful than themselves. They simply couldnât handle the knowledge of the unknown.
Werewolves within Thaalea were scarce enough as women had difficulty conceiving. If they did manage to produce a pup, then the pup would be susceptible to death within the first few months of its life as Northern Thaalea was a cold and harsh land.
It was as if the spirits were punishing them.
âAre you scared?â Aziza asked after a moment as he held my chin within his hand and observed me.
No! I wanted to say.
âItâs not that,â I stated.
I pulled my chin away from him and looked away, a move that caused a look of concern to cross his face.
âSecond thoughts?â Aziza asked curiously.
âThatâs not it eitherâ¦â I said as I frowned.
âThen what is it?â Aziza asked as he dropped his other hand from my waist.
How could I justify my thoughts?
How could I say that I had always wanted a mate of my own, to feel the irresistible pull towards someone who was specially made just for me. How could I tell this beautiful man who stood before me that simply glancing at him made me want to give in to his every touch, to have him devour every inch of me until I lay in a crumbling mess within his arms.
âThere is no going back once weâve become mates, is there?â I asked and yet I already knew the answer.
âNo, there isnât...â Aziza said.
âI thought so,â I replied as I nodded.
Being with Aziza was the one thing in my life that I could control, I could decide whether I became his mate. A lifetime commitment with a man had never bothered me as Iâd grown up around people who found their mates and performed an eternal bond.
To them their mate was their life,
